Weekly payments
Income support paid to a worker who has lost earnings because of a work injury, calculated under the NSW scheme.

Definition
Weekly payments are the income support a worker receives while a work injury reduces or stops their earnings. In the NSW workers compensation scheme, the amount is worked out from pre-injury average weekly earnings (PIAWE) and the worker's current capacity for suitable duties. Entitlements step down over defined periods and depend on a current certificate of capacity from the nominated treating doctor. As a worker returns to suitable duties and earns wages, weekly payments are adjusted to top up the difference rather than replace a full wage indefinitely.
In practice
Weekly payments usually depend on the worker holding a current certificate of capacity and on the pace of return to suitable duties. Nexus's coordination role touches this by helping the employer identify suitable duties and by keeping return-to-work planning aligned with the capacity the treating doctor certifies, so hours and wages can be adjusted accurately. Nexus does not calculate or approve the payments; the insurer does.
