Host employment
A temporary placement with another business that provides suitable duties when a worker's own employer cannot.

Definition
Host employment is a temporary work placement arranged with a business other than the injured worker's own employer. In the NSW workers compensation scheme it is used when the pre-injury employer cannot provide suitable duties, or when the worker is recovering towards a role with a new employer. The host provides real duties matched to the worker's certified capacity, which helps maintain work habits and rebuild tolerance for activity. The worker generally remains connected to their claim while placed. A host arrangement is set up with clear agreement on duties, hours and supervision.
In practice
Host employment tends to come up when a worker has capacity for some duties but their own workplace has none available, so recovery at work stalls. Coordinating these placements is part of a workplace rehabilitation provider's role. Nexus identifies host opportunities, matches duties to the capacity the treating doctor certifies, and sets up the placement agreement between the parties. The medical side stays with the treating doctor; Nexus handles the workplace arrangement.
