Injury management plan
The insurer's overarching plan for managing a worker's injury and recovery across the life of a claim.

Definition
An injury management plan is the insurer's coordinating document for a workers compensation claim in NSW. Required under the workers compensation legislation for significant injuries, it sets out how the injury will be managed, who is involved, and the actions needed to support recovery at work. It sits above the individual return-to-work plan and guides it. The insurer owns the injury management plan and develops it with the worker, employer and healthcare team. It is reviewed and adjusted as the claim progresses.
In practice
On a significant-injury claim the insurer establishes the injury management plan, and the return-to-work plan flows from it. Nexus works within the insurer's plan, coordinating the workplace-based actions, liaising with the nominated treating doctor, and reporting back so the insurer can keep the plan current. The medical management within the plan stays with the worker's treating team.
