Nominated Treating Doctor
The doctor an injured worker chooses to manage their treatment and certify their capacity for work under the NSW scheme.

Definition
The nominated treating doctor is the medical practitioner an injured worker chooses to manage their treatment and recovery under the NSW workers compensation scheme. Usually a general practitioner, the doctor certifies capacity for work on the Certificate of Capacity, oversees the treatment plan, and consents to relevant information being shared with the people managing the claim. The worker nominates the doctor and can change that nomination with the insurer's agreement. The nominated treating doctor is the medical anchor of the claim, and coordination runs through them.
In practice
Almost every decision on a claim traces back to what the nominated treating doctor certifies, so keeping them informed and involved matters. Nexus liaises with the doctor — arranging medical case conferences, sharing return-to-work information, and making sure certified capacity is reflected in the duties on offer. We coordinate around the doctor and never substitute for them: Nexus does not provide treatment or medical advice, and clinical decisions stay with the nominated treating doctor.
