Injury Management & Return-to-Work Programs for CTP & Motor Accident Claims
A motor accident on a NSW road is handled under the CTP scheme, not the workers compensation scheme. Whether the injured person is a worker or a member of the public, their claim sits with a CTP insurer under the Motor Accident Injuries Act. Nexus Rehab coordinates the return-to-work and workplace side of that claim across NSW, metropolitan and regional, and works alongside the person's own treating practitioner — we coordinate the return to work, not the medical care.
How it works under the CTP scheme
Under the Motor Accident Injuries Act, a person injured in a motor accident can receive statutory benefits for treatment and care funded by the CTP insurer. The insurer, usually through a claims or case manager, coordinates the claim and approves services that are reasonable and necessary. Nexus takes the workplace and vocational part of that work: we assess the person's job and workplace, plan a realistic return to work, and keep the insurer and treating practitioner working to the same plan. The treating practitioner assesses work capacity; Nexus builds the plan around that assessment rather than making any clinical judgement.
When there is a workplace, and when there is not
A CTP claim can involve someone hurt while driving for work, or a pedestrian, passenger or rider with no work connection at all. Where the person is employed, Nexus coordinates suitable duties with the employer so they can recover at work as capacity allows. Where there is no current employer, the program focuses on rebuilding work capacity and mapping a return-to-work pathway for when they are ready. This is the main way a CTP referral differs from a workers compensation one — the workplace party may be absent, so the plan is built around the person's own return-to-work goal.
What the program gives the claim
Each referral produces a workplace or vocational assessment and a return-to-work plan the CTP insurer and case manager can act on, with progress reporting as recovery continues. The documentation states what has been done and what is planned next, in plain terms. If a return to the pre-injury role is not realistic, the plan says so and sets out the alternatives. To begin, make a referral and we will confirm the scope with the CTP insurer before starting.
