When a worker is injured on the job in NSW, the claim runs through the workers compensation scheme regulated by SIRA. Nexus Rehab coordinates the injury management and return-to-work side of that claim across NSW, metropolitan and regional — the workplace assessment, the suitable duties, and the liaison between worker, employer, insurer and healthcare team. We coordinate the return to work; the medical treatment stays with the worker's own treating team.
How injury management works under the scheme
A workers compensation claim in NSW runs under the scheme regulated by SIRA. Once a worker is injured at work, their nominated treating doctor issues a certificate of capacity that states what the worker can and cannot do. From there, an injury management plan sets the direction for recovery and return to work. Nexus coordinates the workplace side of that plan: we complete a workplace assessment, identify suitable duties within the certified capacity, and keep the worker, employer, insurer and healthcare team working to the same return-to-work plan. We coordinate the process; we do not provide the medical treatment — that stays with the worker's own treating team.
Suitable duties and recovering at work
Under the scheme the aim is to recover at work where it is safe to do so, rather than waiting until a worker is fully recovered before any return. Nexus builds a graded suitable duties plan that matches the certificate of capacity and the real tasks available at the workplace. As the nominated treating doctor updates capacity, we adjust the plan and confirm the changes with the employer and insurer. Every step is agreed, written down and shared, so no party is left chasing the next move.
What the program puts on the file
Each referral produces a workplace assessment and a return-to-work plan the insurer and employer can act on, with progress updates as capacity changes. The documentation is written to the scheme's requirements and states what has been done, what is planned next, and who is responsible for each action.
