Early Intervention for CTP & Motor Accident Claims
For someone injured in a motor accident on a NSW road, early intervention means being reached and supported in the first weeks, not left to drift while a claim is sorted out. Nexus Rehab makes early contact, works out what recovery and, where relevant, a return to work should look like, and coordinates with the person's own treating doctor. The motor accident scheme differs from workers compensation: the injured person may be a driver, passenger, pedestrian or cyclist, and may not have a workplace at all. Nexus coordinates the plan and does not provide the medical treatment.
How early intervention works under the CTP scheme
The NSW motor accident scheme is designed to support recovery early, through statutory benefits in the opening period of a claim, which makes the first weeks the right time to act. When a referral reaches us early, we contact the injured person, explain the CTP claim process in plain terms, and assess current capacity and immediate needs. If the person was working, we plan an early recover-at-work pathway and coordinate with their employer around suitable duties. If they were not working, the focus is an early return to everyday activity and function. We liaise with the treating doctor throughout and coordinate the plan; Nexus does not provide the medical treatment itself.
Who refers and who funds
Under a CTP or motor accident claim, referrals usually come through the CTP insurer or the case manager handling the claim, rather than through a worker nominating their own provider as in workers compensation. A treating doctor, an employer or the injured person can also ask the CTP insurer to refer to Nexus Rehab. We confirm approval with the CTP insurer before any early intervention service begins. Approved rehabilitation services are funded by the CTP insurer under the motor accident scheme, at no cost to the injured person, which we confirm on each file before starting.
What the early assessment gives you
Early intervention on a motor accident claim produces a clear early read on capacity and needs, and a plan that keeps recovery moving. For the CTP insurer and case manager, that means an early, documented view of the person's situation and a realistic recover-at-work or return-to-activity plan they can act on. For an employer, where there is one, it means knowing what suitable duties the person can safely manage. For the treating doctor, it means a rehabilitation provider coordinating around their advice rather than cutting across it. Make a referral to start the early work.
