Medical Case Conferences for CTP and Motor Accident Claims in NSW

After a motor accident, a claim is often spread across a treating doctor, a CTP insurer and an injured person who may have no employer at all. A medical case conference pulls them into one structured discussion. Nexus Rehab convenes and coordinates that conversation — we do not provide treatment, and the injured person's own treating doctor holds the clinical decisions — so treatment, recovery and return-to-work or return-to-life goals sit against one plan.

How it works under the CTP scheme

A CTP or motor accident claim can involve a worker hurt on the road or a member of the public with no workplace behind them, and that changes the shape of the conference. Where a workers compensation conference turns on suitable duties with an employer, a CTP conference often centres on the treating doctor and other treating practitioners, the CTP insurer's case manager and the injured person, and the goal may be a return to work or a return to everyday activity. We prepare the agenda, coordinate a time around the treating team, and keep the discussion on recovery and realistic next steps. The clinical calls stay with the doctor; Nexus coordinates and documents.

Who refers and who funds

For a CTP or motor accident claim, a referral usually comes through the CTP insurer or the case manager handling the claim, and it can also come from the treating doctor. If you are the injured person, ask your CTP insurer or case manager to refer you to Nexus Rehab. Approved services are funded by the CTP insurer under the motor accident scheme, so for the injured person there is no cost — the insurer pays for approved services. Make a referral and we confirm funding and approval before the conference is arranged.

What the report gives you

After the conference, we send each party a written summary of decisions, actions and owners. Where a return to work is realistic, the plan is updated against the treating doctor's view of capacity; where the goal is a return to everyday function, the actions reflect that instead. For the CTP insurer and case manager, that is a documented outcome to act on and file against the claim, rather than a string of separate phone calls.

Common questions

Usually the CTP insurer or the case manager handling the claim, though the treating doctor can also request one. If you are the injured person, ask your insurer or case manager to refer you to Nexus Rehab, and we coordinate the conference with your treating doctor.
