How it works under workers compensation
In a workers compensation claim, the certificate of capacity sets what the worker can safely do. A case conference is where that certificate is discussed in context — with the treating doctor and any other treating practitioners, the injured worker, the employer and the insurer or scheme agent around one plan. We prepare the agenda against the current certificate, coordinate a time that fits the team, and keep the discussion on suitable duties, recover-at-work options and the next review point. Nexus coordinates the conversation and records what is agreed; the treating doctor makes the clinical calls.
Who refers and who funds
A referral can come from the insurer or scheme agent, the case manager, the employer, the nominated treating doctor, or the injured worker directly. Under the NSW workers compensation scheme, the worker has the right to nominate their own workplace rehabilitation provider and can name Nexus Rehab at any stage of the claim. Approved services are pre-approved by the insurer or scheme agent before the conference is convened, so for the worker there is no cost — the insurer pays for approved services under the scheme. Make a referral and we confirm approval before anyone is booked in.
What the outcome gives you
The conference produces a written record — decisions, actions and who owns each one — sent to every party. Suitable duties and the return-to-work plan are updated to match the doctor's certified capacity, so the certificate and the plan on the ground say the same thing. For the insurer or scheme agent, that is a documented outcome they can act on and file against the claim. We follow up to confirm the agreed actions are carried out.
