How it works under icare schemes
A severe injury is rarely managed by one doctor. Under icare and Lifetime Care & Support, a person may have several treating practitioners, a care plan and goals that reach well beyond an early return to work. A case conference is where those threads are brought together — the treating doctors or specialists, the injured person, and the scheme coordinator or case manager around one plan. Because the horizon is long, conferences tend to recur as the plan is reviewed. We prepare the agenda, coordinate a time that suits the treating team, and document what is agreed; the clinical decisions stay with the practitioners treating the person.
Who refers and who funds
On an icare or Lifetime Care & Support claim, a referral generally comes through the scheme coordinator or case manager, since these claims are scheme-coordinated over the long term. The injured person or their family can also ask for one. Approved services are funded by the icare scheme as part of the person's treatment, rehabilitation and care, so there is no cost to the injured person — the scheme pays for approved services. Make a referral and we confirm approval with the scheme before the conference is convened.
What the outcome gives you
The conference produces a written record of decisions, actions and owners, shared with each party and mapped back to the person's plan. On a long-term claim that record matters more, not less — it keeps a plan that spans years consistent across changing treating teams and review points.
