Vocational Assessment & Job Seeking for CTP & Motor Accident Claims
An injury on the road can change what work is possible — and the person injured is not always someone who was at work when it happened. Under the NSW motor accident (CTP) scheme, vocational assessment and job seeking help map a realistic return to work, or to suitable activity where paid work is not the immediate goal. The CTP insurer manages and funds the claim, so the pathway runs through them.
How it works under the CTP scheme
The motor accident scheme covers anyone injured in a road accident — a worker, a passenger, a pedestrian or a rider — so vocational work here starts from where the person actually stood before the accident. We assess work history, skills and the capacity certified by the treating doctor, then test realistic options against the NSW labour market. Where a return to the previous role is not viable, we run structured job seeking toward a new employer. Where the person was not in paid work, the focus can be a return to suitable activity and building work readiness for a later job search. The CTP insurer approves services before they begin, and we report at each stage so the claim stays on track.
Who refers and who funds
Under the CTP scheme, a referral usually comes through the CTP insurer or the case manager appointed to the claim. If you are the injured person, you can ask your insurer or case manager to refer you to Nexus Rehab. There is no separate provider-nomination right here as there is under workers compensation — the CTP insurer coordinates the claim. The CTP insurer funds approved vocational and job-seeking services under the motor accident scheme; for the injured person that means nothing out of pocket, because the insurer pays for approved services under the scheme.
What the report and plan give you
The output is a documented vocational plan the CTP insurer can act on: a realistic work or activity target, the skills evidence behind it, labour-market findings across NSW, and a recorded job-seeking effort. For the case manager, it is a clear, defensible account of the return-to-work work done on the claim. For the injured person, it is a practical direction after an accident that changed things — grounded in the capacity the treating doctor has certified.
