For people with severe injuries from a workplace or motor accident, icare schemes — including Lifetime Care & Support — fund treatment, rehabilitation and care over the long term. Vocational assessment and job seeking here work to a longer horizon: realistic work or activity goals set as part of the participant's plan, not against a short claim clock. The scheme coordinates and funds the service.
How it works under icare schemes
Lifetime Care & Support covers catastrophic and severe injury, so vocational goals are set patiently and as part of the participant's overall plan. We assess work history, skills and the capacity certified by the treating team, and weigh realistic options against long-term function rather than a fixed timetable. Depending on the participant, that can mean structured job seeking toward open employment, a supported or host placement, retraining through short targeted courses, or a return to meaningful activity where open employment is not the immediate goal. Work is coordinated with the scheme coordinator and the participant's care team, and each stage is agreed and approved before it begins.
Who refers and who funds
Under an icare scheme, referrals come through the scheme coordinator or the participant's care team, in line with the participant's plan. The injured person or their family can ask the coordinator to bring Nexus Rehab in. The scheme funds approved vocational and job-seeking services as part of that plan; for the participant that means nothing out of pocket, because the scheme pays for approved services. Because these are long-horizon claims, services are agreed and approved as part of the plan rather than one urgent authorisation at a time.
What the report and plan give you
The output is a vocational plan built for the long term: a realistic work or activity target, the skills and options behind it, and a job-seeking or placement record the scheme can act on. For the scheme coordinator and care team, it is a documented, coordinated account of vocational progress that fits the wider plan. For the participant, it is a practical direction toward work or meaningful activity, paced to their recovery and grounded in certified capacity. We service all of NSW, metropolitan and regional.
